California’s solar energy credit savings are about to end.

On December 15, 2022, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) voted unanimously to approve California’s third iteration of net energy metering with NEM 3.0. These changes drastically cut net energy metering by 75% for all new solar installed for utility customers of PG&E, SCE, and SDG&E.

Here’s how NEM 3.0 affects your property:

  • 75% less solar energy credits
  • 10x less lifetime energy savings
  • 3x longer payback timelines for solar to pay for itself
  • Significantly higher monthly energy costs
  • Increased need for batteries to help offset costs

However, there is another option. Properties can get grandfathered into current NEM 2.0 but will need to submit an interconnection application as soon as possible to get locked-in to NEM 2.0 rates. We need to get the process started well before February 28th, 2023 to secure the highest possible savings.
